Alaska Photos

I have been playing with some of the pictures that I took on our recent trip to Alaska. I've been using Photoshop Elements to manipulate the photos.

Alaska 2010

Recently we returned from a mission trip to Eagle Creek Campground, which is located north of Juneau, Alaska. I thought I would share a few photos of the scenery and of the open air pavilion that we worked on.

Fiber "Millefiori"

I purchased this pin in Alaska at a fabric store. It is made by Meg Hannan, from the Seattle area. The pin is created from fabrics and fibers that have been rolled with liquid glue, some beads added and then harden. It is sliced cross-section, creating fiber "millefiori". This pin is about 2" tall and 1 1/2" wide. The colors are a lot brighter then they appear here. There many wonderful sizes and colors of pins. I couldn't resist buying one as I had not seen anything like it before.

While traveling I like to buy cards that are prints from local artist. The cards are easy to pack. When I get home I have them frame and they make wonderful treasures. The cards above are ones that I purchased while in Alaska

Alaskan Scenery and Foliage

I thought I would share a few of the pictures I took in Alaska. The colors of the flowers and foliage were very intense. I think that some of the pictures will find there way into my art work.

Home Again

Mendenhall Glacier
Juneau, Alaska

We arrived home from Alaska last night. For the last 8 days we have been helping to build two cabins at the Eagle Creek United Methodist Church Camp. We did take some time off to do a little site seeing and to help serve a barbecued meal to 700 people on the 4th of July. We had a great time and came home tired, a little bruised and mosquito bitten, but would be glad to go back next year and work on a different project.
Above is a picture of the famous Mendenhall Glacier. It is melting over 200 hundred feet a year now.
I will share more of my trip in the next few days as I unwind a bit.
