African Quilt

I love African fabric . While growing up I spent several years living in Africa, both in Morocco and Eritrea. I have been collecting African fabric for a long time and have decided that it is about time that I start using some of it. I always hate to use fabric from my stash, as there might be something more worthwhile that I would rather use it for later. This was a fun quilt to make and I was able to use small amounts of several fabrics, without making too big of a dent in any one fabric. Sometimes life is sort of like having a fabric stash, we keep saving things to use someday and don't enjoy them right now. I'm sure there will come a time when my girls will say, why was mom saving this.

This is a beautiful quilt, Jacq, and an inspiring message.

Over the years, lunch and dinner guests have questioned my decision to use my "best china" every day. They stated: "It isn't a holiday. Why are we using your best china?" The answer was simple: "Friends and loved ones make every day a "holiday."

My daughters heard me repeat this throughout their lives: "People are more important than things." Now that they're adults, they understand.

I too hate to use my stash in case I 'spoil'or 'waste' the fabrics! African fabrics in particular are so beautiful they hardly need sewing! I have juts done the center of a top using some similar fabrics you use in this one ( see my blog today www.downthewell.blogspot.com) - I am now inspired to do somthing with the scraps having seen yours!
