30 Years Later

Mt. St. Helens today

Today is the 30th anniversary of the eruption of Mt. St. Helens. The eruption happened early on a Sunday morning and we watched it from our front yard. It was one of those events in our lives that we will always remember. Some good friends that had to evacuate their home stayed with us for a few weeks as we waited and watched to see what would happen to their home. Fortunately their home was spared. Their son who was 19 at the time is now married to our daughter Shannon, she was 8 years old when the mountain erupted.

The area around Mt. St. Helens has recovered over the years. The vegetation has come back and if you are lucky you will be able to spot a herd of elk wondering around. Our family always enjoys taking visitors to see the area.

If you are interested in more information on the mountain you can go here.

Has it really been 30 years already? That's interesting that their son married your daughter. My daughter has that many years between her and her husband. There are only 9 years between him and me!
