Silk Painting

Something I have been dabbling with lately is painting silk. I buy my scarves and paints from Dharma Trading. I made a frame to stretch the silk on out of PVC pipe, it is very easy to change the size. After stretching the scarf, I sprayed it with water and then brushed on the paint. Because the scarf is wet the colors blend together in very interesting ways. To add some texture I sprinkled the scarf with salt This scarf started out 8" x 54", it shrunk some during the process. Next I want to try using a resist.

Beautiful! I have some silk and dyes to play with too, but keep putting it off. Your post has inspired me to get with it.

Hi Jacq, I love the way you've blended the colours! Will you use it as a scarf or for an art project?

Can we get a photo of your frame you created? I was given a silk painting kit from dharma a number of years ago but simply haven't been properly inspired.
